About Anne Thistleton Counselling

Anne Thistleton Counselling is a child, adult, parenting, family and relationships counselling service, which specialises in Individual, Relationships & Family Counselling, and Sandplay Therapy & Symbolwork for both adults and children.

Anne Thistleton Counselling focuses on supporting clients who present with the follow concerns:

Children and Adolescents Aged 18 months to 17 years:

Fears, nightmares, sleep disturbances, anxiety, crying a lot, clingy behaviour, depression, self-esteem issues, aggression/acting out, ADD/ADHD, grief and loss issues, school issues - bullying, social, behavioural, learning difficulties, relationship issues - school, peers, family.

Adults Aged 18+:

Depression - including pre and post-natal depression, Birth Trauma, PTSD, Self-esteem issues, relationship issues, communication issues, grief and loss issues, parenting concerns, workplace bullying and harassment.

Anne Thistleton Counselling also provides birth debriefing for new mothers / parents, along with on-going post-natal counselling and support.

Our Rooms:

Our counselling rooms are decorated in restful, earth tones to provide a gentle, welcoming space where clients can feel calm, safe and grounded.

Unfortunately, we do not have waiting facilities.

The Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre is located nearby on Dandenong Rd, and hosts most major retailers, and several coffee shops. Rocks River Park, at Seventeen Mile Rocks, is about 6 minutes drive from our rooms.

Homemaker City – located in Goggs Rd (just off the Centenary Highway) is a 5 minute drive from our rooms.

Considerations for your Counselling Session:

Prior to working with children, parents are required to attend an intitial interview to discuss their concerns with me. The purpose of this interview is for me to get a detailed history of your child, as well as some background information regarding the presenting concerns. Parents are also requested to participate in their own sandplay session.

Please allow up to 120 minutes for your first session, and up to 90 minutes for your child's session - approximately 3.5 hours in total.

Try to schedule some time immediately afterwards (either at home or in an alternate space) to allow for relaxation and the integration of session material.

From time to time, clients may experience a continued emergence of feelings immediately or some time after the session or in the days following. If there are any significant changes that are worrying to you, please make contact with me via text or email to discuss your concerns.

Be aware of changes in your child(ren), and respond with closeness, understanding, support and security. Please make contact with me via text or email if you have any questions or concerns.

Confidentiality:

As an adult, the content of your appointment is confidential, except in circumstances required by law.

Children are afforded the same right to confidentiality as adults.

The boundaries of confidentiality will be explained to you or your child during your/their first session.

Appointments Times:

Appointments are available by arrangement - Monday to Saturday.

Fees (per appointment):

Children 18 months to 17 years

Initial Appointment: $245.00 (please allow up to a 120 minute session for one or both parents, followed by a 90 minute session for your child ... approximately 3.5 to 4 hours).

Thereafter: $85.00 per session (please allow up to 90 minutes).

Parenting Support: $75.00 per hour (optional ... available at the conclusion of each child's session).

The Parenting Support option provides parents with an opportunity to share and work towards resolving their parenting concerns, and receive gentle, supportive, nurturing, therapeutically sound strategies, based on emotion-focused frameworks, with which to support their child's ongoing process, and help to strengthen the parent-child connection.

Adults 18+

Initial Appointment: $155.00 (please allow 2 hours for your first session)

Thereafter: $ 95.00 (please allow up to 90 minutes)

Parenting Support: $75.00 per hour (optional ... available at the conclusion of your counselling session).

The Parenting Support option provides parents with an opportunity to share and work towards resolving their parenting concerns, and receive gentle, supportive, nurturing, therapeutically sound strategies, based on emotion-focused frameworks, with which to support your ongoing parenting process, and help to strengthen your parent-child connection.

Couples / Relationships

Initial Appointment: $215.00 (please allow 2.5 hours for your first session)

Thereafter: $155.00 (please allow up to 120 minutes per session)

Your initial appointment will involve an interview process which will help to identify the presenting issues.

*** Before proceeding with further couples therapy, a recommendation for individual therapy may be presented. Whilst this is an optional process, the benefits of individual therapy in the context of couples therapy will be explained in detail.

Payment, Cancellation & Late Arrival Policy:

All fees are payable in full at the commencement of your session via cash, visa or mastercard.

Anne Thistleton Counselling also accepts Bartercard for the Special Offer - Six Session Rate - though I am currently off-line temporarily. It is essential that you nominate Bartercard as your preferred pre-payment method at the time of booking your first appointment. The Special Offer - Six Session Rate requires that appointments be pre-booked, pre-payed, and completed within 6 months. No refunds are available for part use or for not completing all 6 sessions within a 6 month period.

Anne Thistleton Counselling asks that clients respect the time and costs involved in specifically setting aside an appointment for them, and where possible, to provide as much advanced notice of an inabiltiy to attend as possible.
If, on the rare occasion, Anne Thistleton is unavailable to facilitate your appointment, due to illness or circumstances beyond her control, clients will be notified as quickly as possible, and she will go out of her way to re-schedule another appointment time at her earliest availability.
Should you arrive late for your appointment, you will only be entitled to the scheduled time remaining. You will still be required to pay the full fee for the allotted time that was set aside for you. Unfortunately, your appointment time won’t be extended to accommodate your late arrival, as this impinges upon the appointment times of subsequent clients.

Special Offer - Six Session Rate:

Research indicates that the therapeutic benefit for children and adults participating in Expressive Therapies is maximised when a commitment to a minimum of six (6) sessions is undertaken.

To financially assist clients to gain the maximum therapeutic benefit from their counselling, we offer a special ‘six (6) session’ rate of:

$595 for children - aged 18 months to 17 years (valued at $670 - you save $75).
$575 for adults - aged 18+ (valued at $630 - you save $55))
$895 for couples / relationships (valued at $990 - you save $95)

To qualify for the ‘six (6) session’ rate, appointments must be pre-booked, pre-payed, and completed within 6 months.

NB: For some clients, more than six (6) sessions may be required to resolve presenting issues.
